The 2012 high school softball season has officially come to an end
and one look at the statistics shows why the Keystone Wildcats are the
No. 1 team in the nation.
As a team, the Ohio Division II state champions batted .449 and had an
on-base percentage of .568. The Wildcats also slugged .763 and set an
Ohio state record with 45 home runs. Keystone also belted 84 doubles
on the season and 25 triples. According to the
National Federation of High Schools Record Book, the home runs
rank fifth all-time and the doubles are 15th-best.
Individually,
Kenzie Conrad had a huge season for the Wildcats, batting .498
with 11 home runs, 16 doubles and 44 RBIs. She also did the bulk of
the pitching, throwing in 26 games and finishing with a 25-0 record
with 178 strikeouts and just 17 walks. She had a 0.74 ERA in 142
innings pitched.
Fellow all-state selection
Erin Pond was nearly as impressive at the plate, batting .510 with
nine home runs, 11 doubles and five triples. She added 45 runs scored
and knocked in 47.
Only one team moved into the Xcellent 25 this week. Hudsonville, which
defeated Mattawan 2-1 in the Michigan Division I state championships,
enters the rankings at No. 44.
